The Historical Fair

I had a pretty comfy dream the night before I typed this. It’s been a while since I had one of these kinds of dreams. I am not the kind of guy who would go to something like a renaissance fair or any kind of social community event. In any case, I’m in one in this dream. It’s being hosted in the plaza exterior of this old stone building/museum that seems to be European. I know I’m not in Texas because this location appears to have real seasons and the time of this dream is around the Fall season. The leaves are bright orange, red, and yellow; very stereotypical but it does make this old location quite nice to be at. The festival hosted here is packed with a lot of people. There’s stalls where you can buy these folkish trinkets like pottery, little knit beanie hats, painted canvas, little toy instruments, and a bunch of wooden knick knacks from what I remember. There’s a live band performing some folk music with a hammer dulcimer, some weird percussion instruments like a shaker and a deerskin kind of drum, a mandolin, and pennyflute. I want to say it was kind of like celtic folk music but it wasn’t. It felt distinct in some way I can’t describe.

It did suck that I had to wait in line to get into the museum. The line was awfully long. I was all the way back in the plaza where there was a little roman-esque water fountain. But the line seemed to be moving reasonably quick. While I was waiting in line, I got approached by this girl who was standing in front of me and I didn’t even realize it. It almost would have been a jump scare if it weren’t for the fact that she was kind of cute. The best way I can describe her is that she kind of looks like a real life rendition of Sumireko Usami from Touhou. Messy dark brown hair and glasses. There’s a Japanese term for this kind of girl I heard about but can’t seem to remember what it was. She wasn’t a quirky chungus girl that was dorky for the sake of being dorky like you see online. I suppose I internally have a type for girls that are lively but unaware of how much of a dork they are while being a hopeless romantic. This girl who approached me pretty much fit this bill. I don’t remember what she said but I was hesitant to say anything until she grabbed my arms and pulled me close to her so that I’m holding her in a hug from behind. It felt like the sweetest thing I’d ever done in my life. And I was holding her like this while she was snuggling up against me while we both waited in line to get into the museum. I don’t know who this girl is but she apparently liked me enough to let me hold her like this. And once it was finally time for us to go inside the museum, she would take me by the hand and lead me inside and all throughout.

My memory is a little foggy but considering I do remember this festival being historically related, there were a lot of artifacts featured in this museum of the artistic variety. Clay models, pots, woven baskets and clothes. There was one exhibit of a long house which was more than likely a recreation with a straw roof, log walls, and dirt floor. It looked like something I could have made in Vintage Story. Now that I bring that up, this dream feels like something you can recreate in that game.

We breezed through the museum within a few minutes. It’s no wonder the line was moving at such a pace because the actual museum wasn’t very expansive to begin with. We were both outside again and started to browse through the stalls selling stuff. While we were doing this, I noticed another building made of glass, clearly a contrast to the old stone architecture of the museum close by. It was a modern looking glass building, about two stories high, with a banquet being hosted inside. I want to say it was a wedding but I didn’t see a bride or groom anywhere.

Could it have been my wedding? I wouldn’t know because my dream started to fade when I woke up around 6 in the morning which is kind of late compared to the usual times I’d wake up. I felt tired and wanted to go back to sleep and continue that nice dream but alas, I can’t have nice things.

Unrelated but I’m not very familiar with Touhou. I’ve played some of the games but didn’t think much about them. I’m looking at a wiki image of Sumireko and see she has a 3D printed Liberator handgun….huh?!. Otherwise, I don't know much about this character.
