Yume 2kki Online

It’s been a looooong while since I made a vidya review. Mostly because I really haven’t been playing a lot of games over the past few years. Okay, maybe I’ve played a little here and there but it would usually be something in a quick burst and I’m pretty bad at never finishing a game. I don’t usually play multiplayer games because my skills and reflexes in competitive games like Arena shooters and such aren’t what they used to be because I’m getting old. But this “game” got me inspired and intrigued so I had to make a review about it after playing it for a few weeks.

Yume 2kki is a community sequel to a game called Yume Nikki which I’m sure most people are aware of. In case you are not, it’s kind of like LSD simulator from the PSX but in the RPG maker engine and with a leaning on background storytelling that isn’t in your face as you explore various dream worlds. While Yume Nikki’s story leans more into dark and abstract dreams, Yume 2kki has a massive variety of worlds ranging from peaceful and tranquil worlds, horrific nightmares, trippy LSD inspired dreams, and even some goofy ones. It’s a lot of variety so you’ll rarely come across the same worlds as you are moving from one dream to another. Along the way, just like in Yume Nikki, you’ll come across some power ups which will change the appearance of your character Urotsuki and holding the action button will allow her to use some abilities like playing the trombone, riding a motorbike, or using a chainsaw to murder npcs for example. Some of these abilities are required to access new dreams, solve puzzles, or complete scripted dreams you may come across. It’s like everytime you jump in, there’s always something new to discover. Everytime you discover a new area, you can unlock music tracks from the worlds you visit (Some of which are really really good even if they are simple loops), new UI interface themes for menus, and wallpapers drawn by real artists that you can use for your bedroom’s computer wallpaper in game. But you know what makes this game even better? You can play it online.

Yume 2kki online lets you play the game with a bunch of other people. There’s expeditions you can attempt where the game will give you some various locations to travel to for exp. There are arranged events you can host with other players, or you can just run into someone while you are going into the deep end of exploring and just hang out. It’s honestly a lot of fun and it’s nice to talk to people. The game is also getting regular updates and patches so it’s a fairly active online community too. I don’t want to say or show too much about the game but you can check out some screenshots from some of the places I discovered in game along with some birthday party we had at a beach location:
